It may surprise some to learn that New York is the most forgetful city when it comes to ride shares. So says Uber, which has released its ninth annual Lost & Found Index — a hilarious, surprising and occasionally gross list of stuff riders left behind in cars last year.
A gallon bottle of Grey Goose vodka, a case of White Claw, a fifth of Remy Martin cognac in a bag with some Mr. Pure Peach lemonade.
In reporting the data, the San Francisco ride-share behemoth also noted that it was doing so just as the planet Mercury was coming out of retrograde, a time astrologers claim has an effect on forgetting.
More than 7,000 riders reported lost items on April 5 alone last year.
A turtle, a chain saw, or a mannequin head with human hair were found left behind in ride shares.
On October 26, more than 700 items were reported lost, the highest daily total.
The day of the week may be a factor in the type of item lost: Mondays are for gloves, Tuesdays for jackets, Wednesdays for medicine, Thursdays for umbrellas, Fridays for cowboy hats, and Saturdays for sunglasses.
The Independents Drivers Guild said Uber drivers themselves may find it impossible to forget the many unsavory items passengers carry.
Uber drivers have reported having had wallets, headphones, keys, phones, a five-gallon bucket of beans, 175 hamburger sliders, a Bojangles chicken tender combo platter or a carton of melting Sunny Delight ice cream left behind.
