Cider producer Thatchers has successfully won an appeal in a long-running trademark battle with supermarket chain Aldi. Thatchers sued Aldi in 2022 over claims that Aldi’s Taurus clouded its reputation by copying its Cloudy Lemon Cider in “taste and appearance”. Thatchers claimed Aldi’s Taurus drink had been “riding on the coat-tails” of Thatchers’ reputation. A judge has now ruled in Thatchers’ favour, with the court concluding that Aldi infringed on Thatchers’ trademark with regards to its packaging.
