In the opening sketch of SNL, James Austin Johnson played President Trump reenacting his speech from the Rose Garden where he announced sweeping new tariffs.

Johnson called “tariff” his favorite word and said tariffs would be the backbone of his plan for the economy, likening them to random numbers on a computer screen.

Mike Myers played Elon Musk, who announced a new Tesla car that vandalized itself.

There were also performances of sketches about a silent audience during a play in ancient Greece, and a stand-up comedy routine by Ego Nwodim about the food at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Colin Jost and Michael Che continued to riff on President Trump’s tariff announcement during the Weekend Update segment.
