Martin Odegaard, who has become a leader at Arsenal, had a difficult start at Real Madrid at the age of 16 after being presented as the club’s new £3.5m signing in 2015. He trained with the first team during the week and was eventually loaned to Dutch clubs Heerenveen and Vitesse Arnhem, playing 82 times and posting high creative numbers. However, despite showing promise, Odegaard’s development was halted at Real Sociedad in 2019-20 season and he later signed with Arsenal for £30m. The Norway international is grateful for his decision to join Real Madrid and views it as a valuable experience in his education, despite initially not making it into the team.
