Mira Maktabi, a 26-year-old designer from Beirut, credits her interest in fashion to her great-grandmother, who would dress up in a long velvet caftan and elegant accessories while having cardamom tea every day. Maktabi’s brand is known for “cherishing well-made garments that can be passed down for many generations.” Her latest collection pays homage to her design heroes, including French couturiers Madame Grès and Madeleine Vionnet, who were masters of draping.

Sabine Skarule, a 35-year-old designer from Latvia, developed a DIY mentality at a young age. She credits her mother’s knitting machine with teaching her how to create a garment from scratch. Her brand, Skarule, is known for its “Baltic nostalgia” and features garments inspired by traditional Latvian designs.

Raquel de Carvalho, a 33-year-old designer from Brazil, fell in love with yarn as a way to connect with her late grandmother, who passed away after her graduate catwalk show. De Carvalho’s brand features hand-knit sweaters, crochet patterns, and intarsia lace dresses, all created using a combination of traditional techniques and innovative materials.

Tíscar Espadas, a 31-year-old Spanish designer, advocates for a slow approach to fashion, releasing only one collection a year. Her brand features voluminous and off-kilter silhouettes, often embellished with ceramic flowers and sterling silver pins. She won the Spanish Vogue Fashion Fund and is stocked in several international stores.
