A fan at a game in Houston was relocated to a different seat after ripping a baseball out of Mike Trout’s glove, a play similar to a 2024 World Series incident where a Yankees fan took a ball from the glove of Mookie Betts. The fan, Jared Whalen, said he reached out to catch the ball because it was coming towards his son’s face. Whalen was accompanied by security and was eventually separated from his son, with the fans in the section booing as he was escorted out. Whalen kept the ball but said he disagreed with the no-interference call, which was also questioned by manager Ron Washington. The incident was not seen as a threat to fan safety, with umpire crew chief Alan Porter saying he didn’t remember the previous World Series incident. Whalen said the play was different from the 2024 World Series incident and compared himself to a young Yankees fan who interfered with a game in 1996 without getting ejected. After the game, Mike Trout met with Whalen and his son and signed the ball, which Whalen kept.
