Alex McEachin, a 30-year-old fashion designer from Richmond, VA, was inspired by movie costumes, such as Cecil Beaton’s designs for “My Fair Lady” and “Gigi”, and Alicia Silverstone’s styles in “Clueless”. She studied fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York and worked in product development at Proenza Schouler before launching her own label, Accorda, which means “harmony” in Italian. McEachin’s designs balance various aesthetics, including streamlined silhouettes with dramatic details like wavy collars and pleats. Her label is inspired by everyday life and city experiences, with dresses and jumpsuits that are both stylish and practical.
She aims to create clothes that are wearable and not too trendy, using proper fabrics and construction methods, and is helped by makers she met during her time at Proenza Schouler. McEachin hopes to open a brick-and-mortar store in Chelsea in the next five years and is part of a new generation of New York fashion designers.
