Joan Dye Gussow, Pioneer of Eating Locally, Is Dead at 96

Joan Dye Gussow, a nutritionist and educator, has died at 96, at her home in Piermont, NY. She was a professor emeritus at Teachers College, Columbia University, where she taught for more than 50 years. Gussow was known for her emphasis on the connections between farming practices and consumer health, and her book “The Feeding Web: Issues in Nutritional Ecology” (1978) influenced writers like Michael Pollan and Barbara Kingsolver.
