The expansion of Heathrow Airport has been backed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who hopes investment in a third runway, along with a series of other transport projects, will drive economic growth in the UK. The expansion is “badly needed” and could lead to 100,000 jobs, she said. However, opponents claim it would lead to higher emissions and blight local communities with extra noise and pollution.
